LOS ANGELES, CA - JANUARY 27: (L-R) Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong'o, and Danai Gurira pose in the press room with awards for Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture in 'Black Panther' during the 25th Annual Screen ActorsGuild Awards at The Shrine Auditorium on January 27, 2019 in Los Angeles, California.
Award-winning actress Angela Bassett, who played Queen Ramonda in 2018’sBlack Panther(and cameoed in 2019’sAvengers: Endgame), says the script for Black PanthersequelBlack Panther: Wakanda Foreveris ever-changing. “I don’t know what it’s going to look like at all,” Bassett told Entertainment Tonight. “There have been about five incarnations of the script and I hear another one’s coming.”
King T’Challa, played by Chadwick Boseman, who died last year from a private battle with colon cancer, will be honored in the film, Bassett said. “Of course, with our dear king [Chadwick Boseman] going on to glory, a lot of things had to be shifted and changed,” she continued. “So thankfully, [director] Ryan [Coogler] and [writer] Joe Robert Cole, they’re just such masterful storytellers that they’ve found a way into this world and hopefully it will be satisfying, I think, for the fans and it will be honorable of our Chad.”
“We love our king,” Bassett added in honor of Boseman. Marvel Studios announced that the sequel to the multi-billion dollar film Black Panther started production June 29 in Atlanta. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige told Variety.“It’s clearly very emotional without Chad,” Feige said before the Black Widow Global Fan Event in Los Angeles last Tuesday. “But everyone is also very excited to bring the world of Wakanda back to the public and back to the fans. We’re going to do it in a way that would make Chad proud.”
Director Ryan Coogler, along with all of the original cast will be back for the sequel Feige said. Black Panther: Wakanda Foreveris set to debut on July 8, 2022.
