So embracing LinkedIn as a strategic professional networking tool can provide lawyers and law firms with a competitive edge, enabling them to establish their expertise, enhance their professional reputation and drive success in the legal industry.
Excellent communication is a hallmark of an effective attorney. Your lawyer should keep you updated on all developments in your case, thoroughly explain legal terms and processes to ensure you understand them, and listen empathetically to your worries or questions. Good communication extends into the courtroom as well.
Reviewing your employment contract with an employment law attorney offers you the opportunity to not only ensure that you understand all of the terms and conditions in that contract but the chance to ensure that the contract is sound and ask questions about your ability to negotiate in some areas of the contract.
And that's true for lawyers too. The American Bar Association (ABA) conducted a survey in 2020, and 88% of lawyers who participated had LinkedIn profiles. LinkedIn isn't just a networking platform — it's also a great place to create a brand for yourself or your law firm.
Recruiters and employers may turn to your LinkedIn profile to ensure your resume is accurate and consistent. So, make sure your job information and job titles match in both places. Don't list your job title one way on your resume and another way in your profile.
As a law student, LinkedIn can be a powerful tool for building your professional network, exploring career opportunities, and connecting with potential employers. This is true whatever path you take, whether it be the Bar, or solicitor's profession.
