The 5900hx is quite nice in emulation. I have it in the minisforum hx90 and it does an outstanding job with emulation. I also like the quiteness of the hx90. A bit of extra size for a much quieter fan and great cooling. So far mine is set to stock TDP, but 1440P upscaling for 6th gen is really solid.
Also yes a minipc will always be a worse value the a full sized tower (assuming reasonable graphic card prices), but if you are replacing a lot of consoles a minipc also does a better job of looking nice in a living room instead of a tower.

4:59 looks like the white circle on the side of the inside case was maybe where the battery was supposed to be stuck ?

Great video! My only concern about the mini pc is overheating. Is the internal fan adequate to keep this pc cool to the touch?

Hi Russ, if you like capable mini PC's, maybe you should try putting a 5600g or 5700g is an Asrock deskmini :)

You might want to look for a firmware update after a bit. The 120W power supply will make sense if TDP can be raised later.

With you mentioning a Mac Mini, do you have any intentions of testing out a Mac Mini M1. Performance per watt is amazing on these machines and Retroarch and many cores are Apple Silicone (Arm64) native. Also, EmulationStation Desktop is available too.

For 8-16 bit consoles and arcade (FBNEO) can you activate runahead to at least 2 so we can have a better idea on how the CPU handles them? You make it seem obvious that 2D gaming is easy to run, but with the added latency, runahead is the solution to that and sometimes even harder to keep up than 5th and 6th gen consoles, cores like Mesen/Bsnes and others rely on good single core clock performances.

Hey Russ. If you change on BIOS UMA setting to Specified 4Gb or 8Gb (Depends on your total amount of RAM) you get much better performance than UMA AUTO ( Defaults to 512Mb). Some games don't let you increase the detail of textures because it thinks you will run out of VRAM. I have 32Gb setted to UMA Spcified 8Gb and with it I can choose High detail textures in Forza and Doom Eternal. Relative to bandwith you can reduce to 900p and get som speed boost. AMD OpenGL drivers on Windows are really bad. You can use the open source drivers on linux and get a really performance boost.

Selfish comment here, but I personally much prefer the gaming handhelds videos. My favorites videos being among the mod variety like the OGS videos. These mini PC's feel like much of a muchness at this point. Will still watch to support the channel just my 2c.

I don't know much about gaming and I'm not sure how you were able to play switch games on pc? I just purchased this PC I'll have it set up in another few weeks.

Are you using any of the cemu optimization on BOTW and other wiiu games? Like the FPS++ option in the graphic pack.

I'm a bit surprised with the cemu performance. Truth be told, I've installed Kart through Wii U USB helper, with all the updates, but it ran on an Athlon 200GE no problem, single player or 2 player split screen

Even with the price of pc parts you are better off just getting the APU in a standalone tower. As in something you build yourself. They just aren't worth the price. Stick it in a mini case yourself. These mini pc need to be around 300 400 on the high end to justify the price.
